As a stay at home mom one of the most important times of day is the morning wake up. It took a while for me to set a morning routine for my two boys and myself. Wake up, get the baby out of his crib, change his diaper and get him a bottle. Get the toddler out of bed, change his diaper, give him a sippy cup of milk. Sit myself down with my breast pump and hope the boys don’t find any reason to start yelling or crying for the next half hour. It worked but I still felt in a rut. It didn’t help put a positive start to the day it was just going through the motions to get through till the afternoon when my husband would get home from work. It wasn’t until I gave myself a few minutes to myself before diving into toddler baby chaos that things changed for the better.
The first thing I did was make a morning playlist to help get me up and ready for the day. I filled it with happy but soothing songs, songs that helped me appreciate what I was doing as a stay at home mom. So each morning I started getting up, turning on my playlist, putting my hair up in a claw clip to feel cute and brush my teeth before ever going to my baby. Those five minutes to myself made a huge difference to my mornings. As I went into getting my boys settled in the morning I would keep the playlist going and I would dance with them and sing. This small change to our morning routine made mornings more enjoyable for all three of us.
If you are also struggling through your morning routine maybe try putting a playlist of some favorite songs to help ease you into the day. I hope it helps you as much as it helped me. Never underestimate the power of a good playlist and a few minutes of self care.
