Christmas in July

Yesterday on July 25th I celebrated Christmas in July with my little family. When have been doing this for the last few years in July. It is an extra, fun thing for us to do during the summer. Unlike actual Christmas in December, this one is very commercial and just about having fun.

We started our day with a breakfast of pancakes and sausage. A very popular breakfast choice for Christmas. While we enjoyed our breakfast we sat in the living room and watched I’ll be home for Christmas. It’s one of my favorites.

In the morning we also gave our boys a Christmas in July gift. Toys for playing in the sand when we go to the lake this weekend. They enjoyed seeing all the new toys and even our dog tried to run off with one of the sand shovels.

During naptime I started getting things prepped for our Christmas dinner and making chocolate chip cookies. It sometimes surprises me how long even the simplest of holiday meal can take to prepare.

Then came time to prepare dinner. At 3 pm my chicken was rubbed in garlic herb butter and ready to go in the oven for the next two hours. While that began roasting I started prepping the sides for dinner. Stuffing was mixed chopped onions and chicken broth and butter. The aroma even before baking was delicious. Potatoes were quartered and tossed with oil and Italian seasoning. Later they would also be topped with Parmesan cheese.

Finally, dinner was ready to eat and smelling so amazing. Again we sat with our plates in the living room to eat. Our movie that night was The Santa Clause. It’s a childhood favorite and definitely a classic that never disappoints. As we finished dinner and continued our movie we finished our night enjoying our fresh baked chocolate chip cookies.

It was a fun Christmas in July this year and I look forward to celebrating again next year.
