As a stay at home mom one of my many tasks is meal planning. I’m sure many people who probably don’t meal plan correctly think that all meal planning is is planning meals for X amount of days and then go buy the groceries to make them. It’s a bit more than that especially if you want to save money while doing it.
So, here are my tips for how to meal plan for your family and hopefully save money in the process.
– Always shop your fridge, freezer, and pantry first. A huge way to save is to start with what you have already bought and build your meals off of that.
– Know your budget. Your budget will dictate how extravagant your meals will be. Will you be eating ground beef, chicken and hot dogs or lobster, steak , and veal?
– Check your weekly shopping adverts for good deals. But don’t buy something just because it was a good deal, you need to actually know you will eat it.
– Put variety into the meals you plan. This will help you not get bored of the food you are cooking and eating.
– Don’t start making your meal plan and grocery list the day before or day of your shopping trip. Give yourself a few days to go over what you have on hand, your ads, and finalize your grocery list.
– If you buy your meat in bulk, which can save you money, plan meals for however many meals you can make from that meat.
Happy Meal Planning!
