The Diaper Bag

When you are about to have your first baby and you are making your registry for your baby shower, you are given a huge list that will include a diaper bag and things to be put in it. We go into motherhood thinking our babies require so many things, it can hard to fathom how they will all fit in your home let alone a diaper bag you have to carry on your back.

With my first son I did carry the diaper bag, equipped with everything I knew I would need for my son. Also, including a few things in the front pocket, what I call the Mama pocket, for myself. Yet, I still saw other moms with the same amount of children carrying bags that were busting at the seams full of stuff for their babies. I would wonder what all could they possibly be hauling in that bag that weighs a ton.

In the last year that I now have a toddler and a baby, I don’t carry a diaper bag for a normal outing to a store or restaurant. I have a cross body jean purse, with two big pockets. I call the front pocket my mama pocket and the back one the baby pocket. I get my phone, wallet, keys and chapstick. The babies have diapers wipes and enough space for a cup each. It has been such a freeing experience to be able to carry such a smaller bag and still know my kids have what they need. But, there are days where I do pack the diaper bag for the car. I will include diapers, wipes, cups, formula, toys, medicine if needed. This system has made our family outings so much easier.

Don’t be afraid to not take the big diaper bag out all the time. Sometimes when you are just running to Walmart for a gallon of milk for your toddler all you need is a cross body purse with a couple diapers, wipes and a cup of juice.

Happy outings Mamas!
