Preparing for Baby

At this time last year I was preparing to go to the hospital and have my second son. I was preparing my home, I was preparing my bags for my hospital stay, I was preparing my little family for a new member to join us. So today, I will be going over what I did to prepare for each of these areas.

At home I was making sure the whole place was cleaned and ready to leave at a moments notice. My husband and I had spent probably too much time figuring out how to build the new bassinet. Once the bassinet was finally built I proceeded  to put on the new sheets and fill it with his blankie and stuffed animals from family and friends. It looked ready to welcome our new little baby home for the first time. In my kitchen I was making sure we had everything we would need for when we got home from the hospital and if we didn’t have it I was making a plan to get those things once we did get home.

That last week leading up to our hospital stay, I was having a scheduled cesarean, I was busy putting the last things I needed in my hospital bags. Comfy, high top pajamas, a cute, loose dress for going home, slippers for my clothes. My toiletries, tooth brush and paste, hair brush, dry shampoo, shower soaps. And the most important thing for new parents in the hospital, the big bag of snacks. We had a gallon baggie crammed full of nutty bars, gardettos snack mix, oatmeal cream pies and probably more that I just can’t remember at this point. Topping the bag with those first things for baby. Wipes Incase we didn’t like the hospital ones, a few outfits in each newborn and 0-3 months, pacifiers, and cute little baby socks.

Lastly was helping my little family be ready to welcome our newest family member. My older son had been an only child for a year and a half and was very happy with all of Mama and Daddy’s attention. As we got closer to his brother being born we worked on him having more independent play, sleeping through the night on his own, and learning to share.

While it is important to prepare for a baby in so many ways, it’s also important to remember that you will still be thrown curve balls once the baby is finally here. Remember to be patient with situation at hand and remember that you will get through it one step at a time.
